Justin Bieber’s impersonator (a person who pretending to be Justin Bieber) has asked a 10-year-old Sydney girl to pose on a webcam, prompting police to warn parents about internet predators, reports smh.com.au
The girl sent a friend request on a video chat program to someone displaying Justin Bieber’s photograph and birth date on January 9, police said.
Police said the Biebs impersonator then asked the girl to model “revealing clothing” during a video conversation.
Commander of the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad, Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec said: “This incident serves as an important reminder that online predators will stop at nothing to groom children.
“We advise parents to educate their children about these dangers, and to warn them to be wary of anyone who claims to be famous.”
Police offered the following advice to teenagers and children:
- Check the settings on your social-networking page – change it so that only those you know and trust can see anything about you.- Be aware that even if your settings are secure, your friends’ may not, and this could leave you vulnerable.
- Review your profile and how much information it contains – are you happy for everyone to know all this about you?
- Don’t put your photo, contact details or current school on your profile – remember that what you place on the internet is no longer private and can stay there forever.
- If you do receive something inappropriate, don’t delete it. Tell your parents or an adult you can trust as soon as possible.
- Remember that pressing ‘send’ is definite and final – you can’t get it back or take it down.
