Justin Bieber Apologizes for Racist Joke – ‘Im Very Sorry, I Made a Reckless & Immature Mistake’

Justin Bieber has apologized for a racist joke — which was originally recorded when he was 15, calling the joke a “reckless and immature mistake.”

In the clip VIDEO HERE — Justin is heard telling a joke with a racist punchline, asking, “Why are black people afraid of chainsaws?” and answering his own query with a reference to the N-word, “N*****, N*****,” repeatedly.

Justin apologizes, telling TMZ:

As a kid, I didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt. I thought it was ok to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but didn’t realize at the time that it wasn’t funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance.

Thanks to friends and family I learned from my mistakes and grew up and apologized for those wrongs. Now that these mistakes from the past have become public I need to apologize again to all those I have offended.

I’m very sorry. I take my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously and I apologize for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable mistake. I was a kid then and I am a man now who knows my responsibility to the world and to not make that mistake again.

Ignorance has no place in our society and I hope the sharing of my faults can prevent others from making the same mistake in the future. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to say but telling the truth is always what’s right.

Five years ago I made a reckless and immature mistake and I’m grateful to those close to me who helped me learn those lessons as a young man. Once again….I’m sorry.

  • Chikiko

He sounds really sincere from that long apology paragraph. I wish him good luck!!

  • Belieber

I’m glad he opologized. He sounds really sincere.

  • Swaggysgirl

Every human being makes mistakes. But our society is so judgemental, they bring up stuff about people’s past’s. Can’t we just leave that in the past? Or is it proven people have no brains nowadays, so they make themselves look even more stupid by bringing somebody else down.

    • hudabia

I was about to say but then you said it all……….

    • Kat Spencer

      True that. You said it.

    • Lailani

Uh that’s a understatement. Unlike someone who think she’s so perfect and doesn’t make mistakes.

  • Loll pollo

People should open their eyes and see that he is not the justin bieber we once knew. Every time he messes up his excuse is he’s young and growing up and stuff please give me a break there should be no excuse for his behaviour we are all young, I don’t see all of us make mistakes like how he does repeatedly. Fans of bieber you guys are not supporting him but rather encourage him to continue these ridiculous behaviour of his I’m sick and tired of all you ppl looking another way every time he makes a mistake!! I’m as old as him and I don’t find myself at strip clubs, fighting in clubs, smoking weed, driving issues, etc. remember the time when he first got caught smoking weed and in the episode of snl he promise not to smoke again… Yea he continued and to this day still is!! Wake up ppl it cute and sweet how u all support him regardless but someday you all will have to face it

    • wassup

      Yes preach!

    • Lailani

How old are you anyway. Uh he’s young and likes having fun with his friends. So what if he goes to strip clubs. Or he messes up. He’s young. You can’t expect him to not get into trouble. Can’t expect him to be all proper n shit.

      • Darius

As a role model for teenagers you dont go to strip clibs even when you say you are christian. I know he made mistakes and he excused but when you do mistakes repeatedly its inexcusable. I am a fan but I am not blind when he makes mistakes and I am not ,, Oh he made mistakes ? who cares ” I am a boy belieber and as a fan you need to show the one you support what is good for him.

    • Birk

He is not the same 15 year old that said this stupid joke.. He has grown up and regrets ever making that joke in the first place.. Which is ironic now because most of his friends are black and he is still the target of racism because he has black friends and is influenced by urban culture. You might not do those same things, but there are lots of guys his age who do.. Obviously you have never been to Spring Break or Mardi Gras or to a typical frat house party.. Some guys his age and even younger do crazy things. Not all guys are goody two shoes like you. Don’t think you are better than anyone else because you are squeaky clean!

    • Jazmyn Beadle

Do you even realize how much pressure there is on him? If people keeps pointing out your mistakes and flaws, aren’t you gonna break down? I get the fact, that you cant use the excuse “Young”, but still, he IS young, and hes life is different from ours! We can do whatever we want. Its not like we’re gonna come on TV because of our mistakes, But he does!! Everything he does gets pointed out! And i am not just saying this because i’m a belieber. Mostly Young artists when through this, especially Young teen sensational stars, so you cant really blame Justin for being the first! I just want you all to see that there is alot of pressure on him, and alot of people depending on him, but then again, Its not an excuse!

    • Oypa

@Loll pollo we are always talk to our friends and make jokes it’s note his false or our false the false of the media he was 15 years why the media Return 5 years back ? and about smoking and….. HE IS YOUNG with a lot of money and problemes and he is human he do mistakes and we don’t konw the truth what s going on with him we just belive the media Yes he do a lot of mistakes but trust me healy good boy and we will suport him forever because we know the real justin and i will give advice from me always be positive you don’t live with any famous so we don’t know the truth just focus on the good things because they live a realy hard life and we must givs chances

    • Lailani

How old are you. Or are you preaching to the choir.

  • Elisa

  • belieberrr234567

  • Birk

Whoever heard of a 15 year doing or saying something that they later regretted as they got older??? Oh yeah!! That covers just about every single person who was ever a teenager!!! I find it unbelievable that Justin Bieber of all people would be accused of being racist since he is the target of backwards racism all the time for having black friends and some ignorant people accuse him of trying to be black and that he doesn’t know what color his skin is! Justin did something stupid here, I think most Beliebers would agree, but he has changed since then and regrets saying the N word because he is a different person now. At least Justin did the right thing and apologized for it.

  • Lailani

Wow, haters alway have something to say. They can never shut up.

    • wassup

      Shut up! You’re annoying!

      • Lailani

        STFU seriously.

  • Belieber1220

Aww that was so sincere and sweet. Most people would just say sorry ,but he made multiple paragraphs on this.Justin has grown so much from 2009,it’s time for others to.

  • dchopsey

Thank you Justin. You are a GOOD MAN. Making a mistake in judgment at 15 is not that hard to do. But you admitted the mistake you made and your apology is heartfelt. You have shown that ignorance is not accepted in this society. Watching you over the past many years, you have treated all with respect and have high regard for people. You are an AWESOME PERSON. Thank you again; GOD bless you JUSTIN

  • m l

Justin was a 15 year old kid when he told the joke. there is only one reason why this comes up now 5 years later. some people want to hurt him and are milking it as much as they can and media like e talk and tmz are trying to turn it into big thing to promote his so called bad boy image. since he has settled down some they have to do something to push the bad boy thing.

  • im on a high…..

aww so cute think bout this, many popstars wud not care bout this sort of sh*t ans wud not give 2 they wud not apologise buyt jb did,to the world and to his beloved fans so happy #belieber4lyf

    • Lailani

Wow, you people seriously need to get off your high horse

  • Nicki

Its ok! I’m black, my mom is black and my dad is white. I get it all the times in public asking me how is that my dad and do I know that man. My friends is ok with it because color doesn’t mean anything

  • Alexis loves Justin

I really don’t understand why some people hold “famous” people to a higher standard than “regular” people we are all the same, we all make mistakes it’s clear that he is not racist it was just a childish mistake he said sorry so get over it.

  • Holly

It was 5 years ago :/ I don’t see why people are making a big deal out of it now. And to be honest a lot of people are racist these days and just because he is a celebrity and always in the limelight he gets hate for it. It’s not fair, yes he made a mistake and he regrets it and apologised which is all he can really do to the best of his ability. I support him no matter what x

    • Lailani

You people act like he said he hates black people. Some of them can be annoying.
