Earnings: $80 million
Growing up in the limelight is hard for anyone but Justin Bieber is having a particularly difficult time of it. Our 2012 cover boy has suffered through a string of embarrassing incidents this year — almost all of them of his own making. From having his monkey quarantined in Germany to handling the backlash from leaked videos of the singer using the n-word, Bieber has become a media punching boy. But his fans still love him. Bieber has the highest social-networking profile on any of the stars on our list, according to StarCount, and he still brought in $80 million this year thanks mostly to cash from the tail end of his last world tour.
Boy band One Direction come in at number two with $75 million, while Harry Styles’ ex Taylor Swift takes the third spot with $64 million.
Bruno Mars and Rihanna round out the top five, respectively.
These are all estimates of entertainment-related income, the magazine says, and do not include deductions for taxes, management fees or “the other costs of being a celebrity.”
